Conventionally, NIF accommodates 4 different wavelengths (“colors”) that are chosen by the users based upon the cone angle at the Target Chamber pictured in Figure 4-7 above. The Flexible Color Mapping (FCM) capability allows for 3 new wavelength mappings at TCC. These new color mappings are called Tri-Color, Bi-Color, and Balanced. For each of the FCM, each wavelength has defined acceptable ranges as shown in Table 4-2.
The support of any of the Flexible Color Mapping experiments on NIF requires facility preparation time. Please consult with the NIF User Office to better understand the required time and impacts.
